What Is YOUR True Calling?
"The gifts and calling of God are without repentance." - Romans 11:29
One evening I was invited to a friend's house for dinner. There was a missionary there who told adventurous stories of his life on the mission field. I was in awe of how God used him to win souls and change an entire nation for His glory. I was somewhat envious.
As I listened to his testimony, I ceased to glory in his success and began to realize that God had given me a vision years earlier that I was to go to the nations. But not only had it not taken place yet, I began to feel like a failure. How could God use me? The call of God on my life had long been all but forgotten, hidden, and buried in remorse and in excuses.
Then suddenly, while I was focusing on the failures in my calling, this missionary turned and looked right at me. It was if he knew the secrets God had shared with me. But because of my disappointments with the tragedies, I did not believe God would use me.
The faithful missionary told me my calling was "without repentance", which means it is irrevocable. God does not change His mind when He calls a man or woman of God or places an assignment on his or her life. God is omniscient (all-knowing). He knows the past, the present, and the future. That night it dawned on me that if God knows all, He knew every mistake that I would ever make and the troubles that would occur in my life when He chose to call me. Who am I to bring judgment against what God has chosen, even if it is me He has chosen?
Do not let anyone hold you back. Do not give them the opportunity to trouble you with your past. If God has set you free, then who are people to keep you bound? Chose today to reflect on what God has promised you, not on what you have done up to this point. The same God that saved you, called you. The God who called you, gifted you. The God who has a place and a position for you.
"God has accepted you without a disclaimer. You belong to Him."
